Ravi Arora’s Fight for Sobriety: Battling Addiction Triggered by Kidney Stone Medication

In the heart of Taran Taran, Ravi Arora, a 44-year-old pharmacist with 13 years of experience in his chemist shop, was ensnared in the darkness of addiction. His path to recovery and transformation found its beginning at the Akal Drug De-Addiction Centre.

Ravi’s descent into addiction commenced in 2007 when he was prescribed Lomotil and Fortwin injections for kidney stone pain. These medically essential injections soon became a source of pleasure, and Ravi fell into a relentless daily cycle of consuming 1ml injections. His family uncovered the truth when they noticed injection scars, prompting grave concern.

Married and with a young son, Ravi lived with his parents, amid strained familial ties, partly due to business disputes. The ready availability of drugs, facilitated by a compounding chemist, beckoned him back into addiction after five to six years of sobriety. His return to drugs coincided with the birth of his second son.

In an effort to rebuild his life, Ravi reopened his chemist shop with the support of his in-laws, but the accessibility of opium dwindled during the lockdown. Turning to Alprax 0.5 and Tramadol 100mg, he hoped to stay active during the day. It was a wake-up call from his elder son, aspiring to clear the NEET exam or migrate to Canada, that drove him to seek help.

Determined to heal, Ravi returned to the Akal Drug De-Addiction Centre, where he had sought assistance over a decade ago. Since his return in early May, he has diligently followed the prescribed treatment regimen, finding a semblance of normalcy. His cravings have subsided, allowing him to rest peacefully at night.

With a clear goal in mind, Ravi is resolute about reuniting with his son in Canada. He is committed to the continued treatment, recognizing that the path to complete recovery may span five to eight years. The spiritual ambiance at the center helps him remain focused and avert a return to his old habits.

Ravi Arora’s story is a shining example of the human capacity for redemption. It underscores the significance of determination and the critical role that institutions like the Akal Drug De-Addiction Centre play in empowering individuals to reclaim their lives and chase their most cherished dreams.
